review: concealer

I didn't start using concealer until more recently in the past 2 years or so. Reason being- I stopped using foundation and switched to tinted moisturizers. But, since I don't have flawless skin (if I did, I would wear nothinggg), I needed to find something that would give me coverage just where I needed it. As I played around with a few different concealers (both high end and drugstore), I actually liked the drugstore ones better. For high end, I've tried the cult fav Nars Radiant Creamy concealer($29), Marc Jacobs Re(marc)able concealer($32), and from the drugstore I've tried...

Left to right: Maybelline Fit Me in 10 Light (~$6), NYX HD in CW03 Light and CW04 Beige (~$5)

As you can tell from the swatches, the color match is not the best for my pale golden skin tone. I'm still on the hunt for a better color match but for now, these blend out well enough to make it work.

Maybelline Fit Me: This one is newer to me, I heard Kathleen Lights and Jen frmheadtotoe talk about it so I decided to check it out. I enjoy the consistency of it as it's very lightweight on the skin and blends out easily. However, I think this is more of an under eye/highlighting concealer versus for the face to cover spots. I find it to be light-medium coverage so it's great for daily wear. If you're someone who needs minimal coverage on a day to day basis this is an affordable option! Tip- you do need to set this with a little powder if you're normal-oily skin.

NYX HD: I've been using this one for about 2 years now and I have a love/hate relationship with it lol. I love it because it's FULL coverage and very highly pigmented. It covers pretty much anything you need it to cover and it wears well throughout the day, too. It has no talc, fragrance, or parabens, which is also a plus for us sensitive gals. On top of that, it's such a steal at only $5 a pop (plus you can use those coupons from Ulta woot!). My only grip with this is the color selection. As you can see from the swatch, the NW03 Light and NW04 Beige are like 3 shades difference T__T. NW03 Light is quite fair and very peachy whereas NW04 is very yellow and a couple shades darker. I usually just use the Light color mixed with my Fit me under my eyes to counteract any blue-ish bags. The Beige only works if I use it on red spots like blemishes and scars since the yellow counteracts red. A couple tips- it can get cakey if you use too much so work in small amounts & it is a drier type of concealer so make sure to blend out fairly quickly.

In conclusion, I'm still on the hunt for my poifect concealer but for now, I'll keep using these. Just a quickie review on the Marc Jacobs and Nars- the Marc Jacobs one was very creamy and beautiful but too emollient- it would probably only work for those who have super dry skin, and the Nars one just felt like melted plastic to me (why does everyone love this?!) and the color selection was the same issue I had with the NYX (too pink or too dark). Obviously what works for me doesn't always work for you and vice versa, these are just my thoughts =]

monochromatic makeup

I'm a simple gal when it comes to makeup (a nice way of saying lay-z).. I don't even own an eyeshadow palette (beauty blogger fail lol). By choosing one shade and a couple products, you can look pulled together whilst saving time and monies ;]

For this look, I used orange-y coral shades for eyes, lips, and cheeks. For a nighttime/formal look add liquid liner, falsies, contour, and a bolder lip. Try shades like warm rosy pink, watermelon red, or peachy nude (whatever flatters your skin tone)

[Tip] use blush on cheeks & eyes (if it's a creme formula, on lips too!)
L to R: [Eyes] L'Oreal Amber Rush/UD Freelove [Cheeks] Kat Von D Bellisima [Lips] Maybelline Orange Attitude
